Video: Balmain Spring/Summer ’10 at Paris Fashion Week – highlights

The word on the street is that Balmain Spring/Summer 2010 is a few parts Xena: Warrior Princess attending a rock concert all glammed up in sparkles, as the collection which was sent down the catwalk in Paris was full of shredded, toga-like dresses embellished with chain mail or sequins, leather or sequinned jeans, military jackets with fringed shoulders and punched leather minis – again with fringing.  We half expected Xena herself to come flying out from backstage with battle cries of “ay-yi-yi-yi-yi”!  Shoulders are still the focus for Balmain designer Christophe Decarnin, but instead of exaggerated and pinched, these ones are embellished and tasseled.  Other looks we loved included the shredded gold lame dress seen on Abbey Lee Kershaw (the third look in the vid above) and those incredible stiletto-heel lace-up boots.

  1. Really didnt like the show : (
The high st have copied to death previous Balmain pieces so was expecting a complete u-turn to shake things up a little and shrug off the copy cats, but no, all they have done is stuck to the same tired formulas. BALENCIAGA now that was genius!

We’re suckers for anything sparkly and glam so were quite easily pleased by this… but we know what you mean – it wasn’t anything different and didn’t really expand on ideas from past collections.
Did you see Miranda Kerr walking at Balenciaga?! Almost unrecognisable!
